Data safety

Last updated:

This page says what Ronto Reader does with data, in the terms of Google Play's Data safety section. It's the same declaration we make in the Play Console, and the detail is in the privacy policy.

Summary

  • Data collected

    None

The app doesn't collect any data from its users, not even anonymous usage data.

  • Data shared

    None

The app doesn't share data with anyone. It can't: it has no internet access.

  • Data in transit

    None

Nothing is ever transmitted, so there's nothing to encrypt in transit.

  • Data deletion

    In your hands

Everything lives on your device. Clear the app's storage or uninstall it, and it's gone.

Data types, one by one

Security practices

  • No network access. The app declares no INTERNET permission, so Android forbids every connection.
  • No permissions. The manifest declares no permissions at all. Folder access comes from the system file picker and can be withdrawn at any time.
  • PIN as a hash. The optional app PIN is stored as a salted PBKDF2 hash and compared in constant time; the PIN itself is never saved.
  • Private storage. The database and settings live in Android's app-private storage, which other apps can't read.
  • Android backup. Android may include the app's data in your device backup on Google Drive; you can turn that off in the system settings.

What stays on your device

  • The library index: names, locations, sizes and dates of your files, the metadata read from them, and the extracted covers.
  • Reading progress, favorite pages and galleries.
  • Folder and app settings, including the language.
  • The app PIN, as a salted hash, if you set one.

Deleting your data

Clear the app's storage (Settings › Apps › Ronto Reader › Storage › Clear storage) or uninstall the app. There is no copy anywhere else, except in your own Android backup if you keep it on.

How to check

You don't have to take our word for it. Open the app's page in Android's settings (Settings › Apps › Ronto Reader › Permissions): the list is empty.

Any APK inspector shows that the manifest of com.rontoapps.reader requests no permissions, INTERNET included.
